To uninstall and reinstall your modem, you must first uninstall the Remote Access Server (RAS). The Internet Connection wizard automatically reinstalls RAS. However, you will need to supply your Windows NT disks or compact discs.

You will also be required to restart your computer, so you may want to print this Help topic. To print this topic, click the Options button, and then click Print Topic.

To uninstall and reinstall your modem

  1. In the dialing error screen, click Cancel.

  2. On the desktop, right-click the Network Neighborhood icon, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Services tab.
  4. In the Network services box, click Remote Access Service, and then click Remove.
  5. Follow the instructions on your screen.
  6. After you have finished removing RAS, uninstall your modem: Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  7. Double-click the Modems icon.
  8. On the General tab, select the modem you are trying to use to set up your Internet connection, click Remove, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
  9. Restart the Internet Connection wizard.
